Halfway Through 2026: Have You Met Your HR Goals?

Halfway Through 2026: Have You Met Your HR Goals?

We're halfway through the year, are you hitting your marks towards your annual goals? Summer always seems to sneak up on us and then before you know it, we're in the fourth quarter. Instead of throwing in the towel, think about the glass being half full and utilize these resources to make headway on projects big or small in the next six months.

What stops us from making progress? Do any of these HR struggles sound familiar?

  • Stakeholders are hard to pin down
  • Team members are in and out of vacations over the summer stalling productivity
  • Daily emergencies are taking over your inbox, limited time for work on your goals
  • Resources are thin and you're wearing too many hats to improve a process

There are a million reasons we don't hit goals, but what is happening behind the scenes for those who do make it happen? Three main things: Accountability, time-management, and stakeholder buy-in.

Examine Your Goal

Think about what you plan to do. Is it realistic? Do you think (with hard work) you're able to cross the finish line? Make sure the goal is SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Sometimes we create big lofty goals that might better serve us in two manageable phases. Examine what it is about your goal that has kept it sitting on the back-burner for 6 months and adjust it if you need to.

Bite Off What You Can Chew

Figure out what will get you started. Maybe that's getting organized, finding resources on a certain topic, or scheduling a kickoff meeting. Work out the step that gets you organized and start there. That's biting off one small piece of the larger project and you'd be surprised how much easier it is to snowball that outline into a full-blown document once you've gotten it started.

Find Someone To Stay Accountable To

If you're an HR department of one, this might feel challenging. Nobody else does what you do, but that doesn't matter in this case. Find a trusted colleague, your boss, or a friend and say, "Hey, I'm committing to getting my project to phase 2 by our lunch on the 25th. Hold me to it!" And then the important next step is your friend, boss, or colleague actually bringing that back up and asking how it's going for you. Ask them about their goals and do the same for them. Shared accountability helps move goals forward.

Set A Recurring Block of Time

Block off an hour of time each week and don't budge on it. Last minute meeting requests, fires, and ever-present daily emergencies will be there at the end of your hour. You're investing in your own future by moving forward on goals, block it off and stick to it, you'll thank yourself.

Get Stakeholder Buy-In

When the big boss signs off on an initiative, publicly supports it, or signals to leadership that it's a priority, that helps you make progress with the help of your team. Whether your stakeholder is a Director of HR, the CEO, or the Board of Directors getting their support early on in the process will help you complete your goals faster.

Explore Resources To Help Reach Your Goal

There's only so many hours in a day, leveraging outside support whether that be through technology, a consultant, or another form of support may be the best way to move the needle when you're pressed for time.

Tools that Help You Get Organized

There are hundreds of useful tools available to get yourself organized. Which to choose largely depends on what type of goal you have. We created our mozzo HR resource hub so that HR professionals could ask questions, get advice, assign trainings, and stay organized and compliant all in one platform.

Support That Frees Up Your Time

Think about what tasks you handle on a daily or weekly basis that a contractor, consultant, or other flexible hire could take on for a time while you work on the larger project. Archbright offers HR Flex and HR Consultants that can work onsite or virtually to support your day-to-day or project needs. From recruiting to new hire onboarding or documentation—delegating some of your tasks creates time you can spend focusing on your goals.

Other Forms of Support

Goal support can take many forms and come from colleagues at every level. It might look like:

  • Colleagues sharing a new article relevant to your goal or making a network connection. (Forward this to a colleague with goals to reach!)
  • Teammates dedicating time to review your work, provide feedback, or make suggestions.
  • Managers in other departments supporting your project by encouraging team participation.
  • Company-wide reserved time to execute on a survey or workshop central to your goal.
  • Stakeholders announcing the shared goal to the team and signaling their support.

Ultimately, you're more likely to succeed if you're not alone. Invite in support by:

  • Bringing in colleagues to own a small piece of the goal, where applicable, and stay accountable to each other.
  • Finding tasks you could delegate off your plate to open up room for goal work.
  • Pitching Stakeholders at the beginning of a project process to get them invested in the end goal.
